It offers a wide range of rendering options and pre-made scenes to ensure that the rendering process is as seamless as possible. The first screen is the <b>Design screen</b>, which is where you create your Render. The second screen is the <b>Render screen</b>, which is where you finally run your render and export it with the settings you have selected.</p><p><b>3. </b>On the very left most side of the screen, there are several buttons that will mostly be used through hotkeys while traversing the scene. The first is a <b>+</b> sign, used to<b> import </b>content into the scene. You can also drag your objects into the scene by clicking and dragging them into the viewport (4). The one after that which is an arrow and a circle is the "<b>Select and Rotate</b>" mode, which allows you to select and rotate the object in the scene. This mode is multipurpose, and behaves very similarly to Maya. You hold down Alt+Left Mouse, Middle Mouse, and Right Mouse to Orbit, Pan, and Dolly respectively. (These are also listed as buttons in this column) The next tool is the <b>Magic Wand </b>tool, which works very similarly to the Magic Wand tool in Photoshop. It selects things that are similar. The one following that is the <b>Eye Dropper</b> tool which can be used to quickly move materials between objects by selecting them, holding down control, and then right clicking another object to place what you have picked up onto the new object. It also has it's own <b>basic model creator,</b> which can be accessed on the next button which resembles a cube. The tool that is a plane with sparks coming off of it is used to select the <b>Environment </b>in the scene.</p><p><b>4. </b>This is the viewport that shows the<b> camera view</b> you are currently utilizing.</p><p><b>5. </b>This will show you <b>Basic Shapes and Models</b> that come as Starter Assets with Stager.</p><p><b>6. </b>This will show you <b>Materials </b>that come as default with Stager.</p><p><b>7. </b>This will show you all of the light options that you have. They are broken down into "<b>Physical Lights</b>", "<b>Environment Stages</b>" and "<b>Environment Lights</b>". Physical Lights are actual light actors that you can manipulate in the scene. Environment stages are complete light set ups with backgrounds that you can utilize. Environment Lights are specific lighting scenarios that have been curated by Stager. I find combining Environment Lights together is the best method to creating a great Render, by using one of the Environment Options with one of the lighting options toward the top of the list.</p><p><b>8. </b>This is a list of images that can be used as background for your object and can also be used as the base set up for Environment Stages.</p><p><b>9. </b>The "<b>Scene</b>" panel shows everything that is currently in the scene. To the right of this there are also the options for creating a new Camera and switching between which Camera is the currently active one. </p><p><b>10.</b> The <b>Actions </b>tab gives you quick actions that you can take. The ones shown in this screenshot are Delete, Duplicate, Group, and Move To Ground. These will change depending on what you have selected.</p><p><b>11.</b> The <b>Properties </b>tab is multi-functional and acts as the hub for every detail you'd like to change about your object, or your environment. <b>For an Object:</b> The first tab is "<b>Transform</b>" which can be used to change the pivot location as well as the position, rotation, and scale of the object. The second tab is the "<b>Object</b>" tab, which allows you to add a collider to your object. The last tab is the "<b>Material</b>" tab which allows you to change many different details about the material you currently have attached to your object. <b>For an Environment</b>: When you select your "<b>Environment</b>" under the Scene panel, you get a different selection of options under the Properties panel. These include "<b>Ground</b>", "<b>Background</b>", and "<b>Lights</b>". These are fairly straight forward, and keep it very organized while you are working.</p><p>12. The last thing that is important to point out is the "<b>Ray Tracing</b>" option box. The sculpt as it currently was, was not good enough. So, I pivoted a bit this week in order to try and get a portfolio piece that would specifically suit the needs of an open position at <b>Imangi Studios</b>, the company that makes Temple Run.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br /></div><h2 style="clear: both; text-align: center;">UI Adventure</h2><div style="text-align: left;">One of our fellow students at FIEA recently landed a job as a producer at Imangi Studios, and she highly recommended that I apply as a UI Artist for the company because their artists in-house often wear multiple hats. Although I would get a job as a UI artist, I could be doing any multitude of things. For the last two months there has been a large group of FIEAns (15 of us) who have been preparing to participate in this weekend's <b>Game Maker Toolkit (GMTK) Game Jam.</b> I was the <b>Art Lead </b>on the project and I focused on UI for the entire experience. I also helped with the creation of the game idea itself and it's design.</div><div style="text-align: left;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: left;">Although it wasn't 3D, and although it may not be considered the "best" use of my time, this extra bit of experience in this 48 hour game jam did give me several things:</div><div style="text-align: left;"><ul style="text-align: left;"><li>A UI portfolio piece</li><li>Experience in a large Game Jam Team</li><li>Another "Art Lead" project</li><li>Opportunity for employment</li></ul><div>I first delved into a bit of research (1 hour max) of what logos within the space we were trying to aim for looked like. I looked into low-poly gaming experiences to see what their logos resembled. We then also settled on a style for the <b>slimes</b> that would be the center of our game, which was to match the <b>Epic Game's</b> <b>Fortnight SLURP skins</b>. It turned out being extremely difficult, but here it is! We started out with a much more realistic looking crab, but I narrowed down what traits made crabs look cute. What I found in my research was that crabs with big eyes that were mostly black were adorable, and crabs with small faces were adorable. I was able to find lots of things that <i>did not</i> look cute on a crab. Super pointy legs made them look too spider-like, any kind of open-mouth looked weird on most of them. Eyes that had color and whites looked strange and too much like people eyes. I found that mostly rounded shapes looked best, while keeping away from any sharp pointed edges. I then worked on moving the sculpt in this direction, and think I did so pretty well!<br /><br />I did not get this version of the crab in engine yet, but it will be in engine soon. A lot of my time was worn away because this break I got major surgery to have my gallblader removed. Monday (today) was my first day actually back working, but I'm finding some major pain if I sit at my desktop propping my upper body up for too long. Since we are going with Orb's style (which is inherently Blizzard's style because that's who he works for) I decided to pull what I could for stylized references of crabs from World of Warcraft. I then did some digging to try and find crabs that fit with the geometry already created. Using the Ghost Crab reference that was given as a starting off point, I also found a similarly shaped Galapagos Painted Ghost Crab that had a coloring similar to what I believe the crabs should be at the end of the project. They also had more defined eyes which appeared to be more inline with the original concept. </p><p style="text-align: left;">I then began editing the sculpt that was already provided by Nick. I added the definition to the legs, to the top and bottom of the body, as well as to the claws and the eyes / face. The original slide from right to left of crows came across too cheaply. I instead decided to use a hand-drawn sprite sheet placed into a flipbook material to try and get that to render onto the post processing effect on command instead.</p><p>I ran into several issues with it. The first was getting it to show up at all, which was solved by a multiply node with the Post Processing 0 node. The second was getting the flipbook to render at the right scale. This was solved by ensuring that the rows and columns were set properly. The third was ensuring that it could be played on command as opposed to just continuously playing. The solution that I currently have set up for that is a IF statement that checks to see if two numbers are equal to each other. Then there is a delay so that the animation can play, before it is once again set to 1 to turn it off. 2. Get the current player camera and start a fade on it to black, with a slight delay. I sculpted them in ZBrush to match the UE4 mannequin hands with only slight elongation of the fingers to showcase how spindly Victor's fingers are. I then decimated the hand in Zbrush using the Decimation Master tool, followed by the ZRemesher tool to make sure that the polygons moved in a natural way around the hands for skinning purposes. I learned about how Post Processing Materials can effect cameras and how to set up a panning material that can be edited remotely in a blueprint. However, this effect is currently not working to my knowledge. I do not have a headset so this was <b>very</b> difficult to test, and I'm not sure that I was testing the right things.
